GRAMPS, a genealogy research program for Linux / Unix, has been quietly making great progress. Gramps has been useful for a long time, but version 1.x didn't scale well because it stored all data in a single XML file, making it unusable for me and my family. Our database is pretty big.

However, just yesterday I discovered that version 2 uses a real database! I think I can finally use it in place of Personal Ancestral File.
