/ Hathaway Weblog / Python Meetup / Podcasting |
I went to the Provo Python meetup tonight. We met in the cafe at a Barnes and Noble bookstore. Brent and Randy were there. We talked about wxPython, Tkinter, Python, Delphi, and podcasting. I presented a couple of small programs I've built with wxPython and showed how to create a simple GUI using XRCed. Brent was especially happy to learn about XRCed. I showed him how useful it is and how to work around its quirks.
Randy talked about his new podcasting hobby. He plans to write a Python script that updates several web sites whenever he posts a new podcast. The script will involve modifying, validating, and posting RSS feeds. Until tonight, I didn't see why this newfangled thing called podcasting was cool, but now that I know someone who is actually doing it, I'm interested.
Now, where is Randy's site? Google, google... ah-ha!

Interesting stuff. I also listened to a "G'Day World" podcast. This podcasting concept reminds me of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. In that movie, two teenage boys save the world with garage band music (that's not a spoiler--see the movie!) and now I'm sure there's no way they could get started without podcasting (unless Rufus helped them, of course.)
Anyway, if you're in Utah and even remotely interested in Python, come to the next Python meetup in February. Brent plans to present Guido van Robot. We'll probably throw in some Zope and podcasting, too.
